These training grenades are engineered from the ground-up to be a cost effective means to educate, train, or simulate a live grenade without the hazards of traditional training fuze assemblies or ATF controlled items. Specifically, the Mini Firecracker Grenade is designed to reduce both fire and explosive hazards through a protective blast cage while minimizing operating costs with a reload system that consumes a single cap gun cap and single paper-fused firecracker for each deployment. Even when not used in conjuction with a firecracker, the fuze assembly is a good representation of how the prolific UZRG-M functions mechanically. This allows these training grenades to function as classroom models when not used as a simulation device.
The fuzing mechanism is an improvement of the Soviet-era UZRG-M with an added a secondary striker safety catch and optimized the geometry for polymer construction.
